What is Arts Therapy

Arts therapy utilises a range of arts modalities as a means of communication within a therapeutic setting.

It aims to provide a safe space for people to explore and express parts of themselves, their experiences and relationships.

  • A range of arts processes such as drawing, painting, singing, movement, sculpting, drama/play, improvisation, sand play,  visualisation and journaling may be used.

  • Arts therapy activates the 'whole brain' allowing us to fully experience, explore and make sense of our world.  â€‹

  • Through self reflection you may gain an understanding of the experiences that have influenced you and begin to identify and embrace your strengths.

  • You can get to know and understand parts of you and your core Self.

  • You can step back and see a situation or relationship from a new perspective. It may allow you to contemplate and try out new ways of being or relating.

  • Counselling and mindfulness may be incorporated depending on what works best for you.

  • No art skills or previous experience is required. It is not about a creating a masterpiece or becoming a great artist.
